DIY Sound Sensory Bottles

Introducing sounds to your Munchkin.

In our day-to-day life, children hear various types of sounds – birds, dogs, music, sound in the kitchen and more. Each sound is of different decibels.

Natural sounds are the best for your Munchkin. I normally take My Munchkin for a walk and she watches and hears the bird’s chirp, dog’s bark, trees hustle and many more sounds in the environment.

Apart from this, I have made her some Sound Sensory Bottles that produce different sounds when shaken. An activity to allow her to explore different sounds and compare two sounds as well.

Similar to the Colour Sensory Bottles, you need some small bottles and food grains. Again, it is recommended to use bottles of the same kind so the only difference is in the sound. I could not get same ones so I used two different bottles.

Take off the labels from the bottles and wash them well. Fill half the bottle with the grains you choose to use. I have used Oats, Black Lentil (Kaali Dal), Split Red Lentil (Masoor Dal), Rice and Red Kidney Beans (Rajma). I used these because of the different sounds they produce when you shake them. You can try other grains as well. Make sure you close the lids tight so that they do not open (you can even glue it if you want). Put the bottles in a basket and give them to your Munchkin and observe them explore the sounds.

Age: You can give this around 10 months or even earlier if you feel your Munchkin is ready.

Purpose: This helps in refining the Auditory Sense.

Do let me know if your Munchkin enjoyed this easy DIY activity.
